Past, Present & Passions
Let me tell you a little more about myself.
Roles & responsibilities
Senior designer
@ Microsoft - Azure Data
2020 - Present For a couple years leading up to, and during my time as a senior designer, I have led design for the management of Azure SQL resources, one of the most popular service families on the Microsoft Azure platform. I continue to lead the unification of the PaaS and IaaS SQL Server offerings into a single management pane and deployment flow. I am also responsible for our open source and emerging hybrid data platform experiences.
Designer II
@ Microsoft - Azure Data
2015 - 2020 As a part of the Azure Data UX team, I have been primarily involved in the ideation and production of interfaces for managing services on the Azure framework. Products have ranged from big data analytics infrastructure management to a variety of internal—facing and confidential projects.
Senior UX designer
@ Wizards of the Coast
2012 - 2015 With capacities ranging from UX consultation to project strategy, my primary objective was site visitor retention through compelling user experiences. I served as the key internal UX authority for redesigns of the Magic: The Gathering, Wizards Play Network & Community Sites, seeing each of these through their transition to a new platform, Drupal. I assisted in bug priority determination and direct vendor direction. The Magic site alone sees millions of visitors each month, and the updates ignited a new cycle of continuous iteration and improvements.
Art director
@ Carpool Agency
2011 - 2012 From initial discussions to ideation, and throughout the production phase, I ensured a consistent user experience. My responsibilities covered the gamut of consultant, art director & production designer as necessary. I completed regular quality reviews with the development team prior to final site launches. The work was primarily digital, with the occasional print piece or advertising campaign. While in this role, I helped our team achieve a look on the Sharepoint platform that has been historically uncommon at Microsoft.
Graphic designer
@ Kor Creative
2008 - 2011 I delivered a wide variety of web, print, motion, market-targeted work. Range included general advertising collateral, web advertising, packaging, signage and other work as required by assorted campaigns and clients.
Graphic designer
@ Brigham Young University - Idaho
2005 - 2007 I delivered event and organizational collateral for Activities Communications, a university entity responsible for student engagement activities.
Graphic designer
@ Oakley Valley Arts Council
2000 - Present I have done, and continue to do web work, general pro-bono theatrical collateral design work and consulting for a non-profit community theatre.
Land survey technician
@ US Bureau of Reclamation
2006 - 2007 I delivered public land survey and map creation work… The longer explanation is that I wandered the deserts of southern Idaho looking for buried brass…and did a ton of math once I f0und it.

@ BYU - Idaho
2008 I didn’t plan it, but my focus on information, motion, sequential and interaction design created a solid foundation for my eventual career as a UX & Graphic Designer.
